The Amazing Weed

Yellow, jagged petaled weeds known as dandelions have held a special place in history through legends, lessons, and stories. They are edible and provide pollination for bees. So how did this weed become so beloved within our culture? I believe it is simply because the dandelion believed despite what everyone said, that it was not just a mere weed, but a shapeshifting flower full of awe and beauty. Maybe we all could take a lesson from the dandelion. Its refusal to be destroyed is why the dandelion has been recruited to be a symbol of strength in literature. No matter how many times they have been pulled out of their dirt bed, they spring back. They will not be stopped, even growing through tiny cracks in between impenetrable materials such as asphalt and concrete. The dandelion absolutely refuses to be looked down upon, or discarded.

Dandelions are one of the first blooms we see that symbolize that springtime is on the way. We see these little yellow suns popping up everywhere, and we start thinking about Easter, summertime, vacation, and swimming. They usher in an era every year of being outdoors and in the sunshine. They are a representation of new starts and bright beginnings. Their bright yellow coloring is refreshing after a dull, colorless winter.

There is one thing the dandelion is known for most, and that is its ability to shapeshift. Bet you did not know they were magic. Well actually they are not but why ruin the imagination. The beautiful yellow flowers convert to a puff of seeds with a feathery pappus attached to them. What have we all done at least once? Blew the seeds into the air and make a wish is what we did more times than we could count. We would watch these magic feathers dance on the wind carrying our wishes with them to some far away, unknown land. So, why exactly is the dandelion so amazing? It stands for strength, renewal, and can grant us wishes. What more could you ask for in a beautiful flower, I mean a mere weed.     If you'd like to buy me a coffee, click here...
